COMMUTERS FACED AN ODYSSEY DUE TO A FAULT ON THE RAILWAY LINE IN ROME, WITH CANCELLATIONS AND DELAYS EXCEEDING 250 MINUTES
An afternoon of passion for Orvieto commuters on the afternoon of October 23 in Rome at Termini and Tiburtina stations. The cause of delays and cancellations was a fault on a high-speed train (AV) between Rome Tiburtina and Prenestina, which had a significant impact on the entire Rome-Florence route.
Trains departing north from Rome experienced delays of up to 250 minutes due to a complete blockage of the railway. At 2:15 PM, RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) announced that the circulation was resuming very slowly, but with rescheduling, delays, and cancellations on the Orte-Fiumicino and Rome-Viterbo lines as well. The average delay exceeded 150 minutes. Commuters found themselves in the station along with many other passengers, receiving limited information and expressing multiple protests. Announcements were audio-only, and there was minimal staff among the passengers, with almost no medical assistance. Passengers, who were rather exhausted from the long waits, emphasized these issues.
As of the time of writing, RFI has issued a new statement which reads, “Railway circulation is severely slowed in the Rome hub. High-speed trains are experiencing delays of up to 250 minutes, route changes, or cancellations. This has repercussions on all Regional lines with a rescheduling of railway services.
