L’abisso morale
Ad 80 anni da quel 16 ottobre 1943 che cambiò le sorti degli ebrei romani e italiani, con l’inizio della loro deportazione nei campi della morte nazisti, una drammatica macchina del tempo ci ha fatto precipitare di nuovo nell’abisso morale.
Uno sprofondo in cui ci ha trascinato un network terroristico palestinese privo di scrupoli e spietato, con la stessa capacità di trasmettere odio e spargere sangue innocente delle SS e della Gestapo durante la seconda guerra mondiale.
E’ significativa la vignetta di Giannelli del 16 ottobre sul Corriere della Sera (in foto) che vede il bambino ebreo del Ghetto di Varsavia con le braccia alzate ed il mitra spianato del terrorista di Hamas puntato contro e la didascalia della vignetta che recita”16 ottobre 1943-2023”.
80 anni sono passati da quello che pensavamo potesse essere il periodo più triste della storia dell’umanità. Pensavamo di aver visto tutto il peggio che il genere umano potesse aver esibito ma ci sbagliavamo. Mai, fino al 7 ottobre 2023,avremmo potuto lontanamente immaginare di vedere bambini assassinati, decapitati e bruciati per la loro “colpa” di essere ebrei, le donne stuprate, gli anziani picchiati e derisi, i corpi degli assassinati dilaniati e vilipesi ma la sorte, come alla generazione precedente dei nostri nonni e dei nostri padri, ha riservato questo scherzo crudele ed infame.
Quel “Mai Più” che pensavamo potesse essere una pietra miliare, non scalfibile, promulgato alla fine del secondo conflitto mondiale, presa coscienza della Shoah, mentre ancora le ceneri di Auschwitz volavano sparse per l’Europa, si è trasformato in un “Perché ancora?”. Perché ancora odio antiebraico, perché pogrom, uccisioni, devastazioni e deportazioni?
Da una settimana stiamo assistendo a talkshow, abbiamo letto 1000 articoli, visto immagini cruente e spietate, di una efferatezza riscontrabile solo in quello che accade ottant’anni fa per mano dei tedeschi e dei loro collaborazionisti e siamo sprofondati in un incubo.
Un abisso morale dal quale sarà difficile uscire e riprendersi, risalendo la china di una fiducia nel genere umano perduta di nuovo, dopo averla faticosamente riconquistata nel dopoguerra.
Altri conflitti in questi decenni si sono verificati e si stanno verificando, ma la mano assassina di Hamas e delle sue consorelle islamiste integraliste non ha uguali per spietatezza ed uso delinquenziale delle immagini che fanno da corredo al metodo.
Menti perverse, diaboliche che esprimono la loro lucida follia gettando l’umanità intera nello sconforto. Quello che stiamo vivendo è un incubo ed una delle riflessioni più amare è stata, in queste ore, quella di Fania Oz-Salberger, figlia del grande scrittore Amos Oz, quando si dice sollevata dal fatto che il papà, venuto a mancare nel 2018,non sia più tra noi e non abbia assistito agli scempi di Hamas nei kibbutzim israeliani, lui che aveva narrato con talento ed efficacia quelli dei nazisti nei villaggi ebraici in Lituania negli anni ‘40.
Essere costretti a gioire dentro se stessi e rallegrarsi perché ad un proprio caro è stato risparmiato, dalla sua dipartita, il dramma a cui stiamo assistendo è forse la sconfitta morale più grande del genere umano.
P.s.: mentre scriviamo arriva la terribile notizia che un missile ha centrato un ospedale a Gaza facendo centinaia di morti. Scambio di accuse reciproche tra Israele ed Hamas sulla provenienza del razzo ma la sostanza non cambia, è lo stesso abisso e la stessa tragedia a cui una banda di criminali sta sottoponendo l’intera umanità. La firma su questa sciagura è comunque quella di Hamas, vera mandante morale di questa ennesima tragedia. Senza quel tremendo 7 ottobre tutto quello che sta avvenendo non accadrebbe.

Ethical abyss
Eighty years after that fateful October 16, 1943, which changed the fate of Roman and Italian Jews with the start of their deportation to Nazi death camps, a dramatic turn of events has plunged us back into a moral abyss.
It’s a descent into darkness brought about by a ruthless and unscrupulous Palestinian terrorist network, with the same ability to spread hatred and innocent bloodshed as the SS and Gestapo during World War II.
The significance is captured in Giannelli’s cartoon from October 16 in Corriere della Sera (in the image) which shows the Jewish child from the Warsaw Ghetto with arms raised and the Hamas terrorist with a raised submachine gun aimed at him. The caption reads, “16 October 1943-2023.”
Eighty years have passed since what we thought could be the saddest period in human history. We believed we had seen the worst that humanity could exhibit, but we were wrong. Until October 7, 2023, we could never have remotely imagined seeing children murdered, decapitated, and burned for their “crime” of being Jewish, women raped, the elderly beaten and derided, the bodies of the murdered torn apart and desecrated. Fate, like for the previous generation of our grandparents and parents, has reserved this cruel and infamous twist.
That “Never Again,” which we thought could be an unshakable milestone, promulgated at the end of the Second World War in the wake of the Holocaust while the ashes of Auschwitz still floated across Europe, has transformed into a “Why again?” Why is there still anti-Jewish hatred, pogroms, killings, devastation, and deportations?
For the past week, we have witnessed talk shows, read a thousand articles, seen gruesome and ruthless images, of a brutality only comparable to what happened eighty years ago at the hands of the Germans and their collaborators. We have plunged into a nightmare, a moral abyss from which it will be difficult to emerge and recover, climbing the hill of trust in humanity that we have once again lost after painstakingly regaining it in the post-war era.
Other conflicts have occurred and are occurring in these decades, but the murderous hand of Hamas and its Islamist extremist counterparts is unparalleled in ruthlessness and the delinquent use of images to accompany their methods.
These are perverse and diabolical minds that express their lucid madness by plunging all of humanity into despair. What we are experiencing is a nightmare, and one of the most bitter reflections has been from Fania Oz-Salberger, the daughter of the great writer Amos Oz. She expressed relief that her father, who passed away in 2018, is no longer with us and hasn’t witnessed the atrocities committed by Hamas in Israeli kibbutzim. Amos Oz had narrated the talents and effectiveness of the Nazis in Lithuanian Jewish villages in the 1940s.
Being forced to find joy within ourselves and be relieved that a loved one has been spared from witnessing the tragedy we are currently witnessing is perhaps the greatest moral defeat for humanity.
